1914 Colt SAA Long Flute, Colt is famous for never throwing anything away. It seems Colt had a box of unused new 1878 Model cylinders laying in Colt warehouse. They took two engineers and two machinists and reworked the cylinders cutting notches in the faces and developing a different cylinder pin shroud to make the 1878 cylinders work flawlessly in the 1873 SAA! They made approx. 1374 of these Long Fluted cylinder guns and shipped them to waiting buyers. Less than 200 have been found to yet exist. This gun was made with a 4 3/4 inch barrel, Blued finish, and chambered in .45 Colt. This being verified by the included Colt Archives letter. Made in the late 1913 and 1914 time period. This Colt was shipped on Oct 8, 1914 to Stauffer Esheleman & Company, New Orleans Louisiana in a shipment of five guns.
Condition is very good, it was refinished sometime in its 109 year history. Roll marks on frame a crisp and legible, with barrel markings weaker, correct two line barrel address with side caliber markings. Good bore with rifling, tight and crisp 4 click action with solid lockup. Grips are Ivory. The gun shoots very well and hits point of aim. Numbers all match on trigger guard ,frame, and butt of gun.
A great chance to add a very rare variation of the beloved 1873 Colt SAA with letter to your collection.
