Rare Turnbull USFA SAA revolver
Description: Special order, USFA, built by Doug Turnbull's shop, which is signafied by the DT stamp in the hammer slot. Unfired. Carved, one piece elephant ivory stocks by William B. Ellis, Tarpon Springs, FL. What is very rare on this USFA is, a cross pin frame and v-notch tapered front blade. In addition the hand checkered, Colt 1901 style hammer checkering pattern and a hole in the cylinder pin head. Turnbull caught all the details on this short run of USFA guns. All of which makes it a very close replica of the early 20th Century 1st Gen Colts. Very few of these cross pin framed, v-notch guns were ever produced. All of them went through Turnbull's shop. "45 Colt" marked barrel, with a spare, fitted cylinder in 45 ACP. Some say the USFA guns are as good as any 1st Gen Colt. Some say the USFA guns are much better guns than any Colt. No one doubts the skills at Turnbull Restoration. The questions typically that have been asked. Gun is marked USFA on the barrel just as any USA made gun would be. The DT stamp is Turnbull's stamp. Gun has a cone firing pin, a USA front sight profile and a hand cut hammer. Frame is a Uberti frame from the loading gate cut. Serial # is 217XX. I'm Yahoody, aka Cozmo, on the gun forums, who has posted the vast majority of USFA serial number and Italian parts info on the Internet the last 20 years. I'd guess this gun was built around 2002 or 2003 but have not called Turnbull to verify that. I simply hadn't thought about it until now. Gary Granger acknowledged at one point on line or in private conversation with me that there were a very small number of these guns (V-Notch tapered blade) made up early on in USA production by Turnbull. Hence the finish DT stamp and not a Serial DT prefix or suffix. It is not a typical Uberti parts gun for what that is worth coming from the seller. All the USFA, USA, frames were cut from bar stock. Uberti frames are forged just like a Colt. This is where the guns typically break on Uberti parts guns and USA made guns. 22113 Uberti parts gun 22154 USA gun* cone firing pin, transitional guns by the # out of order? #217XX is unique. USFA marked on the barrel address...DT finish stamped. It is NOT a USPFA gun. This gun was built with all USA parts, including front sight, barrel roll mark, hammer and firing pin.
