H&R 929 Second Model Side Kick, .22LR Caliber, 9-Shot Revolver
Description: The Harrington & Richardson (H&R) story is a little confusing beginning in 1871 and ending in 2015 when H&R 1871, LLC (then a part of Remington Outdoor Company) ceased production. Based on its serial number, corporate marking, and manufacturing location, this revolver, which is no longer produced, is an H&R 929 Second Model Sidekick, .22 revolver, and potentially somewhat of a collectors’ item. It is a single-action/double-action, nine-shot revolver, with a 6-inch barrel, swing-out fluted cylinder, .5/8-inch-wide hammer, a 5/8-inch-wide, smooth-face trigger, hardwood grips, windage-adjustable rear sight, and fixed front sight. The year of manufacture is 1974. Though it is a Sidekick, that word is not stamped anywhere on the gun. I am unsure about the origin of the wood grips. Each grip panel has a gold-colored medallion bearing the initials NEF (New England Firearms), which was also owned by Harrington & Richardson. The company’s products were manufactured in the same factory in Gardner, Massachusetts and were sold under both names. Certain gun models were practically identical. This H&R 929 Second Model Sidekick revolver is very similar to the HEF 92R Ultra. Internet sources and the Blue Book of Gun Values indicate this H&R 929, Second Model Sidekick, was equipped with plastic grips, while the NEF Model 92R Ultra which was equipped with “smooth hardwood grips”. Is all that absolute? I'm not sure. I am also not sure how NEF wood grips came to be on this H&R 929 Sidekick. Were they installed at the factory or were switched out at some later time. Who knows? The overall condition of this gun is 95- percent, pretty good for a 51-year-old gun. The barrel is like new all over, except for a one-inch rub on the left side of the muzzle, apparently from drawing from the holster or maybe just laying in a holster and being jarred around in a vehicle. Strangely, a similar rub does not appear on the right side of the muzzle. The cylinder is also like new; it doesn’t even have the usual cylinder-lock ring indicating usage. The frame has a few very small nicks here and there, and some scratches on the metal just above the right grip panel. The wood grips are 98+ percent, with five very small dents on the bottom of the left grip panel. There is also a mark on the butt of the right grip panel, but it is a natural mark associated with the wood grain that can be viewed on the right grip panel. Otherwise, the wood grips show no sign of usage. If this gun has been fired, and I am not saying that it hasn’t, it hasn’t had very many rounds put through it.
