Description:
Whitney Arms Co. No. 1   Single Action .22 RF Pocket Revolver

This is a rare Antique  .22 RF, 7 shot, pocket revolver,   Spur trigger with bird’s head grip. Narrow cylinder, short flutes, brass frame.   Total revolvers produced in model #1,#1 ½, and #2 about 30,000 from 1871-1879.  This is one of the 4 models they produced with as a No 1 model.

Eli Whitney founded Whitney Arms back around 1790. Yes the same guy that invented the cotton gin but failed to make any money from it,  so turned to manufacturing firearms with great success. No other American gun maker produced such a broad range of arms as did Whitney. His name appears on many models from the earliest American flintlocks to lever action repeating rifles. The first famed Walker Colt 44 percussion revolvers were produced by Whitney under a sub contract for Colt who needed to produce 1000 pieces for the army during the Mexican war. Amazing history behind this company.

Top of barrel marked:
WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT. U.S.A.

Condition: 3 1/4” octagon barrel has a very fine bright bore showing a few pinprick pits and string rifling throughout.
Short fluted cylinder and barrel are a mix of blue and pewter gunmetal.  The barrel model name remains intact and legible.
The brass frame is in very nice condition showing a mild ocher patina with some scattered light handling marks.   The original smooth Rosewood grips are in excellent condition retaining most of the original varnish with some scattered light dings. All appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun. Mechanically excellent with tight cylinder lock-up and very good timing  The hammer retains a generous amount of case-hardened colors and most of the screw heads and the cylinder bolt show nice fire blue. Hammer maintains a strong hammer spring that holds in half and full-cock position.
A custom case and a vintage sealed box of .22 short ammo is included for displaying with the revolver.
The current condition of the item listed has been described to the best of my ability . Please examine the photos , text thoroughly and make sure to ask any and all questions.
