Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1908, .30WCF, 7lbs. 10oz., LOP 13 1/16" Serial Number: 438797 Scan the internet for Winchester Model 1894’s and you will find a very large selection with wildly varying prices. You will see many rifles with standard features and 26” barrels, and even more carbines with 20” barrels, as after about 1936 the rifle was discontinued. What then is a “SEMI-DELUXE TAKEDOWN ½ OCTAGON SPECIAL-ORDER” and why is it so special? Special-order features were relatively rare, and when several special-order features are combined in one rifle, the rarity of the combined features means that few guns were ever made with this combination of features. The “SEMI-DELUXE” refers to the special-order feature of a capped pistol grip stock and factory checkering. Very few Model 1894 SEMI-DELUXE RIFLES WERE MADE THAT INCLUDED A ½ OCTAGON BARREL, TAKEDOWN FEATURE, ½ MAGAZINE, AND TANG MOUNTED PEEP SIGHT. This RARE 1894 special-order rifle sn438797 was made in 1908 has all these features and still retains 97% factory finishes on all wood and metal. This is a very high condition, untouched, factory original rifle with a mirror shiny bore, and all parts original to the gun. Rarity, condition, and desirability are what drives the value. We have thoroughly inspected this Model 1894, and it is factory correct in every way. The photos will show the internal stampings of the matching “assembly numbers” on the lower tang, the end of the buttstock, and on the underside of the buttplate. These assembly numbers assured that these hand fit buttplates and buttstocks could go to the appropriate finishing department and come back to the proper action and barrel assembly. The assembly numbers demonstrate this rifle is factory correct. Cody Firearms Museum only has records up to 1906 on the Model 1894, so a letter is not available. It is becoming more difficult to find a Model 1894 with much of the original factory finish remaining and this rifle has not been molested in any way, retaining Winchester factory finishes on all metal and wood. The barrel blue is 98% with a beautiful shiny bore and crisp rifling (BORE RATES 9.75 OUT OF 10). The action retains 95% factory blue with light handling and wear, perfect screws, the lever and hammer retain 98% case color, loading gate and bolt showing 98% strong blue. The buttstock and forend retains most of the original factory varnish and strong checkering, with only a few light handling marks, no cracks or repairs. This gun was barely used but carefully maintained. The action functions flawlessly with crisp trigger pulls and no kinks. What a great piece of history in this 117-year-old rifle. AND, we provide professional photos that show the gun from butt to muzzle, so you know what you are buying. We take the risk and gamble out of internet purchases, with a 3-day return policy and 30-day mechanical warranty. Winchester lever guns are strong, investment quality tangible assets, and special-order rifles in high original condition are sure to continue gaining value.
