The Norwich Arms Company, located in Norwich, Connecticut, was a prominent firearms manufacturer during the Civil War era, producing a significant number of Springfield rifle-muskets for the Union army. The company, founded by James Mowry, played a vital role in supplying arms for the war effort. This example has survived in exceptional condition, with crisp markings including the lock and barrel, both dated 1863. The stock has strong cartouches, and the ramrod is original and marked with a "G". The underneath of the barrel is pristine and looks factory new, while the top has a mild patina throughout. The nipple and the cleaning screw are removable. The hammer screw is darker and may be a replacement, but im not certain, if it is, it is correct for the era an not a reproduction screw. There is mild pitting where the hammer and nipple bed made contact. This rifle has strong rifling throughout the barrel and no pitting as far as I could see. I have no doubt this mechanically perfect rifle could fire, but I would not recommend it because of its age. Please contact me for any questions, I am always looking for trades in the form of Colt Navys, Armys, and pocket pistols. I accept Money Orders, Cashiers Check, or Personal Check.
