Description:
Antique Colt 1860 Army Revolver. Here is a very decent and solid 1860 Colt revolver. S/N 95648 and made in 1863 and right in the middle of the Civil War. I had a very good friend of mine run this S/N through the Springfield Research. No direct hit but he mentioned that an 1860 Colt with S/N95646, just two numbers off of this gun was at Gettysburg in the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry fighting on the south field.. He also mentioned that many 1860 Colt revolvers right in this S/N range were in the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry at Gettysburg. This gun also has lanyard holes cut in the bottom of the grips. Union soldiers were not allowed to alter their guns in anyway during the war so maybe it is a possible Confederate capture?? We may never know but the possibilities are there.. The gun has the standard 8” barrel.. ALL S/N's are matching including the wedge and the arbor pin. This gun has no finish and is now worn to a gray patina with some light spots of surface staining but has no pitting. It has 80% strong cylinder scene remaining.. The rear of the cylinder also retains most all of three safety pins and generous portions of the other three. The mechanics are excellent.. A very crisp and tight gun with VERY little cylinder play and hardly any cylinder side to side wobble on the arbor pin.. The rammer still fits tight with no wobble.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit. This gun is extremely tight for a no finish gun.. Not all loose and rattly.. I would not be afraid to load this gun up and shoot it.. The bore is very good with very strong rifling with a couple small patches of roughness but still well above average bore.. The cylinder chambers are very clean as well and not all pitted.. All the markings are excellent including all the inspectors markings throughout the gun... The grips show wear but still show partial cartouches on both sides. No splits or cracks but show a little shrinkage where they meet the frame. Other than that they fit perfectly.. I did remove them to check the number inside the back strap channel and I can make out a couple numbers of the S/N that match but the rest are too weak to read. The screw heads are nice and sharp and not all burred up and a couple on the trigger guard still show some fire blue. One frame screw shows a little turning but all can easily be removed. I also removed the trigger guard and most all the bright vivid case colors are on the bottom of the frame. Getting hard to find martial 1860's with great cylinder scene and markings that I can sell in this lower price range.. This is just a very tight and solid Colt 1860 that shows normal use but not abused and a very possible Gettysburg history. I also have a very nice Civil War holster for the 1860's and a couple cap pouches if anyone is interested in those.
