Description:
***   REDUCED   ***   Handsome and sturdy Beesley-action Purdey sidelock ejector game gun. Purdey no. 13973 was made in 1892. The fences reflect the change in engraving styles from the sculpted motif to the more modern floral style. The “self-opening” action has disc set strikers and an automatic safety. Stock and forearm are made of highly figured French walnut. Gun weighs 6lb 11oz.

The 28" nitro steel chopper lump barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. They are topped by a raised tapered gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “J. Purdey & Sons, Audley House, South Audley Street, London, England”. The bluing is in very good condition and the bores are shiny. The right barrel is bored 0.730 with a constriction of 0.010 for quarter choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027. The left barrel is also bored 0.730 and has a constriction of 0.018 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028.

The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut with a 1/8” horn buttplate and well-defined drop points. Stock dimensions are 14-7/8” including the 1/8” buttplate by 1-1/2” by 2”. Cast off for the righthanded shooter.
