These revolvers were crafted with self-defense in mind, making their debut in 1871, right after the Smith & Wesson's Rollin White Patent expired. This change opened the doors to a market eager for metallic cartridge firearms that had a cylinder bored right through. For over a decade, from 1857 to 1869, Smith & Wesson monopolized this innovative design, leaving little room for competitors. Not everyone in those Wild West days was a cowboy toting a Colt’s Single Action Army. Many civilians wouldn’t have carried a firearm at all if it weren’t for options that they could tuck away in a pocket, purse, or muff—similar to what many do today. The Open Top revolver enjoyed some success, offering seven shots of .22 rimfire ammunition, but by around 1877, production came to an end. This was largely due to tough competition from a host of manufacturers producing similar but cheaper options. The overall condition is fine. Bright, original nickel finish. Excellent action. The bore is in good shape with a light frosted appearance and serviceable rifling. Good grips with average handling. Markings are legible. Visible numbers match. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2-3/8 inches. Caliber: .22 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
