Civil War Revolver Used into the WILD WEST Here we present an antique Colt Model 1849 Percussion Pocket Revolver, made ten years before the start of the Civil War in 1851 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Model 1849 Pocket, the replacement for the Baby Dragoon, was the most widely produced of any Colt percussion pistol. Nearly 340,000 were manufactured during its 23-year production run that ended in 1873. Over 280,000 of these were produced by Colt’s factory at Hartford by the end of the American Civil War in 1865. These were very popular and saw a lot of use on the battlefield, on the home front and in the West. These were some of the smallest, handiest pocket revolvers of the time. One of the most captivating features of the 1849 Pocket revolver is its beautifully detailed cylinder scene. Back in the mid-19th century, these artistic cylinder scenes were quite popular, especially among Colt firearms. They not only looked great but also served a practical purpose: they made the revolvers harder to forge. The scene on the cylinder of the 1849 Pocket captures the intense moment of a stagecoach robbery. At the center, you can see a stagecoach being pulled by four powerful horses. A woman in a dress stands framed in the coach doorway, while the driver bravely fights off multiple bandits, pistol in hand. The horses are rearing up in fear, straining against their harnesses, adding to the chaos of the moment. On the ground, several bandits lie defeated—one struggling to control the horses, two running for their lives, while another falls, struck by a bullet. This dramatic depiction does more than just look impressive; it cleverly illustrates the revolver's purpose and appeal. For the everyday person in 19th Century America, this was more than a weapon; it was a means of self-defense. The overall condition is good. Some original finish is present on the barrel, frame and trigger guard. The action fully functions but the return spring is weak or missing and requires manual reset. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and a small bit of pitting near the breech. Solid grip. Numbers match. Much of the cylinder scene has been preserved. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
