Guns Listing ID: 505641

The Ruger 10/22, a highly popular rimfire rifle, was introduced in 1964 and has been in continuous production ever since, becoming one of the most successful designs in history with millions sold.
Here‚‚s a more detailed look at its history:
1939:
Bill Ruger, while a student at the University of North Carolina, developed a semi-auto version of the Savage Model 99, which influenced his later work on the rotary magazine for the 10/22.
1964:
The Ruger 10/22 was introduced, featuring a sleek design reminiscent of the company‚‚s earlier Model 44 center-fire carbine and the M1 carbine.
1965:
The standard 10/22 took on the model designation of Carbine, and its stock was changed to a plain \"hardwood\" or birch or maple stock.
1966:
The Ruger 10/22 Sporter version was initially offered, featuring a classic walnut stock with checkering and sling-swivel studs.
1991:
Sturm, Ruger & Co. ceased its manufacturing operations in Southport, with rifle and shotgun production moving to Newport, New Hampshire, and pistol production relocated to Prescott, Arizona.
2008:
The birch stock was discontinued.
2006:
The Compact version was introduced, featuring a shorter barrel and hardwood stock.
2012:
Ruger introduced the 10/22 Takedown model, which disassembles into barrel and action/buttstock components.
Present:
The 10/22 continues to be produced with numerous third-party manufacturers making parts and accessories for upgrading and customization
