Description:
This is a US marked Ross Rifle MkI Bayonet patent marked 1907 and dated 11-09 in the original leather scabbard. Having both US and Canadian markings this was part of a small purchase of Ross Rifles in 1917 for the US war effort. Measuring 14 ¾ inches overall with a 10", hollow ground "butcher knife" style blade that remains in excellent, unsharpened condition with original factory bright finish having the characteristic tool marks left at the factory and about 80% of the original blue coating of the cross guard showing some scattered carbon staining on the blade. Well marked the pommel shows the "Ross Rifle Co./Quebec/Patented 1907" marking and the Canadian broad arrow. The wood grips are solid with some old contusions and have the "US" marking below the flaming ordnance bomb and various Canadian proof marks. It comes in the original leather scabbard and frog marked prominently with the flaming bomb above "US" in the center front with Canadian broad arrow, 1909 date and inspector marks on the back and is in very fine condition with supple leather with mild use marks and scratches. A rarely seen high condition WWI Ross Mark I bayonet.
