Description:
I'm selling my collection. Here is a Rare Antique Imperial French Chassepot Model 1866 Needle Battle Military rifle. Antique FFL is not required. It's chambered in 11mm same caliber as the later first modern Gras cartridge. Manufactured in 1868 in one the Imperial factories St Etienne, with all the military approval markings. Scarcely found in such excellent condition, with a 32.1/2" barrel with excellent bore with sharp rifling. It comes with its original leather sling. Serial numbers are matching on the barrel and bolt rare enough to be mentioned as these french military rarely match; the 5 main Arsenal government factories produced industrially for all its firearms to precise interchangeable specifications for each parts. For an extra $155 It will come with its Yatagan impressive saber bayonet made in June 1873. Comes witha replacement cleaning rod. The metal & wood have been cleaned and brushed minor marks, all is accurately photographed. The finish was originaly in the white. The action is firm and smooth, the original needle is still there, i would recommand if you pan to shoot it to change the the needle with a new one as they are available on some sites. The wood of the stocksaw some action on the field during the Fraco-Prussian war of 1870 and during the Civil War of the of the Commune insurgency of Parisin 1870 against Legitimists were governed the country from the nearby Versailles. The the little dovel on the right side of the stock which contained a small piece of fabric blessed by a Catholic priest for the Divine protection of the soldier on the battle field was removed by some activist Communard insurgent who also grinded off the Imperial engraved provenance on the left side of the receiver. All other Chassepot rifles were later in 1874 irremediatly modified to shoot the modern black powder Gras cartridge then named the model 1866 modified 74. This rifle was fortunatly preserved in its original needle system condition. Those Chassepot took an active part in the civil war in Paris of 1871 where the "Commune" the communards were crushed by the legitimist goverment troup of Versailles (15 kilometers away where the goverment was sieging) Ragging battles, sommery executions made over 350.000 victims in a 9 months period when the famish parisians had to eat cats and dogs... Those are fun to shoot and very accurate with its 32.5" long barrel with black powder needle loads showing original packs on the pictures, not for sale. Please don't ask for extra pictures. Buyer is responsible for knowing all laws pertaining to this transaction. $1,195 + $95 insured shipping to your door, payable by cashier check, P.M.O or credit card with the usual charging fee.
