Description:
1804 SILVER Hallmark Antique Joseph MANTON Pistol Large Ornate Set Trigger

ENGRAVED with CAST SILVER HARDWARE

Here we present two cased antique Joseph Manton Pistol, made in 1804 in London, England. This Manton pistol was manufactured in the early 19th century and subsequently professionally converted to percussion. Joseph Manton was a famed British gunsmith who innovated sport shooting, improved weapon quality and paved the way for the modern artillery shell. From 1780-1781, Manton was first apprenticed to a gunmaker in Grantham, Newton. From 1781 onward, he worked on his own producing around 100 weapons annually, including both cased dueling pistols and shotguns. Manton was recognized as England’s greatest gunsmith in the late 1700s into the 1800s.

This beautiful pistol was built with very attractive silver mounts, including the trigger guard which has silver hallmarks including an "M B" maker's mark, Britannia, a lion's head, "I" date code (1804), and sovereign's head.

The overall condition is very good. Modestly refinished. The Damascus pattern is still visible on the barrel. The action is excellent. The trigger must be set in order for the hammer to cock. The bore is dim and smooth. The stock has been broken from the left stock flat through the lock inletting on the other side. The foremost barrel wedge is absent.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 9-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .60 Percussion
