History, Evolution, and Development of Manual, Automatic, and Airborne Repeating Weapons, Bureau of Ordnance Department of the Navy, Washington, 1951-54, 1987 (Vol. I-V). This five volume set is the most comprehensive publication ever compiled on the history of the machine gun, from the Gatling through aircraft cannons. At the end of WWII, the US Navy Bureau of Ordnance directed Col. George M. Chinn, Ret. USMC to put together the history of the machine gun and Volume 1 was released to the public in 1951, however, the remaining volumes (2-5) remained classified and not released until 1970. This complete Presentation Set is numbered 483 and so marked on every cover sheet, with the author's signature. The classified material cover sheetsl are stamped: "Personal property of Col George M. Chinn". Volume 5 is dated 3 August 1987 as the final part of the presentation set, but unnumbered. CONDITION: Very Fne Presentation Edition copies in the original dark blue armorial cloth w/gilt boards. Cover sheet has embossed "Library of EFR" stamp from original owwner.
