Offered out of a collectors estate is one of 15 made by the military in 7.62x51 NATO caliber. As their use was transcended by technology, these devices were declared surplus and sold through the CMP. This device comes with CMP Shipping documents validating their sale.
Mentioned in Lt Col. William S. Brophy's book THE SPRINGFIELD 1903 RIFLES, pages 226-227, these devices were developed to test the accuracy of various military cartridges. This specimen is the last cartridge, 7.62mm NATO round, of which only 15 Mann Devices where built in that caliber. Earlier examples were common in .30-06 and .30 Carbine.
