Interesting antique home protection device in .25 caliber. 2 1/2-inches overall. Marked "S. COON / PATENT / SEPT. 22 1857" on one side of the barrel and "MAF'D FOR R.M. PATCHIN / SPRINGFIELD / ILL" on the other. Made by Simon Coon, Ithaca, New York. Circa 1857, According to Flayderman's Guide. The folding, tapered screw device allows gun to be affixed to a door jamb, window, or other movable object and fire a blank charge when disturbed, mainspring acts as hammer.
