New items added daily! Description: This is an excellent EA Merkel high-grade box lock shotgun, serial number 8104. Featuring 16 gauge (2?¾" chambers) 29 1/8" barrels with a high matted rib, on which the maker’s name and “Suhl” are inscribed, accompanied by the German eagle crest and the maker’s cartouche displayed over both chambers. The gun is all matching, and the box lock action is exquisitely engraved with detailed game scenes, including a fox on the left, an auerhahn (traditional German game bird) on the right, a running roebuck (deer) on the floor plate, and pheasant on the trigger bow; all encircled by intricate floral and arabesque patterns. The stock is enhanced by an engraved toe trap featuring similar decorative motifs and a bugling stag, while four cartridge holes hint at the gun's possible origin as part of a multiple-barrel set. Additional features include a receiver outfitted with side clips, scalloped fences, cocked indicators, a Greener cross bolt, and a Greener side safety accented with “Sicher” in gold inlay. The stock’s plain side panels are marked with black diamond designs, and the checkered, diamond-shaped grip (with a rounded semi-pistol style) is complemented by a subtle shadow cheek piece positioned 13?5/8" above a serrated horn buttplate paired with a splintered forearm. The barrels themselves display a double-lump design with extensions and are paired with dual triggers, the right trigger being the set trigger. The metal on this example retains about 95% of its original finish. The barrels have some areas of extremely light patina, and some micro scratches here and there. The receiver engravings are mostly intact, with the only obvious wear in the small recesses directly above the trigger guard. The wood furniture is mostly in great shape, with sharp checkering and no major damage. It has been lightly sanded, and there are a few tiny chips in the barrel channel on the forearm. The bores on both barrels are stone mint. Price: $4,995.00 Curio/Relic: Yes Shotgun Gauge: 16 Gauge |
