Description:
Serial #229453, .31 Caliber, 4" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has dark freckling within the grooves. This is a six-shot variant, made in 1863, that has matching numbers on all components except the unnumbered wedge and loading lever. The barrel and cylinder have a dark, plum-brown patina throughout, with thin gray fading along the high edges and projections, as well as some mild pitting on the barrel breech and sides of the mottled gray frame. One of the frame pins is broken and the barrel assembly has a small amount of lateral ply as a result. Traces of the cylinder scene remain visible, but the New York barrel address is still fully legible. The brass trigger guard and backstrap have been cleaned to a pale yellow-ochre patina, and the walnut grip is in very good shape with minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about the old varnish. This is an about good, Civil War-made ‘49 Pocket overall. Antique
