Description:
This Joseph Curry 28 gauge side by side was made in the heyday of the English gun trade between the wars. This gun was built between 1936 and 1940 and is in absolutely beautiful condition. This gun was obviously built for someone of small frame as its light weight and has a shorter length of pull. The barrels measure 26 inches with 2 1/2 inch chambers and are proofed for 5/8 ounce loads. The right barrel is choked .000" true cylinder and the left barrel is choked .012" or tight improved cylinder. Barrels also have ejectors which are well timed and very crisp. There are some very faint typical handling marks on the barrel bluing. The stock measurements are 1 3/4 DAC, 2 1/2 DAH and 13 1/2 LOP to the checkered butt. Cast is neutral. All checkering is sharp and well executed. Weight of this little beauty is 4 pounds 15 ounces. This gun is tight and by all indications has been fired very little. The wood appears to have been refinished at some point simply because there are only a couple of very small marks on it anywhere, very typical of the British gun trade to freshen up their guns after a number of seasons. The wood has beautiful deep burn grain pattern. The metal condition is excellent with bold and brilliant color case hardening on the receiver, minor edge thinning on the bottom metal bluing and some bluing worn off the trigger guard. These can be easily refreshed if interested. The gun would be perfect for anyone of smaller stature or a one inch leather covered pad could be added for an additional charge to give you a 14 1/2 inch LOP. You will search long and hard to find an English 28 gauge in better condition than this one.
