RARE Example 1st Post WWII Colt National Match .45 Auto Pistol
Offered here for sale and just acquired among a number of recent collections is this SUPERB Colt National Match .45 auto pistol. With so many new additions many fine specimens still have some residual dried oil on some specimens. We will however do a final cleaning on all pieces before shipping and will guaranty our descriptions.
Colt introduced the first post-World War II National Match pistols in 1957, following the reintroduction of the Camp Perry National Matches after the war. These pistols were based on the Colt Government Model (M1911A1) but were finely tuned for competitive target shooting. These 1st Post-WWII National Match Pistols had hand-fitted components. The pistols were assembled with tighter tolerances than standard Government Models. Barrel bushings were individually fitted for enhanced accuracy. They were equipped with an Elliason adjustable rear sight and a high-profile front sight for better sight alignment. Fitted with a Colt National Match barrel, which was superior in quality and precision to standard barrels. The barrel bushing was also hand-fitted to reduce play. Lightened trigger with a crisp break, usually in the 3.5 to 4.5 lbs range. Blued finish with checkered walnut grips. The left side of the slide was marked "National Match" along with the Colt logo.
These pre-Gold Cup National Match pistols (1957-1970) are considered highly desirable by collectors. Highly collectible, especially original, unmodified models. The early versions, particularly those from 1957-1960, are among the most sought-after.
This specimen, serial number 5440-NM is all original and in superb condition. As mentioned only the .45 magazine has some use marks. Aside from dried oil the gun is in 99%++ condition and appears to have been used very little if at all.
