In WIEN” Marked Belt Pistol VIENNA Here we present an antique Engraved & Gold Inlaid Joseph Zeiller Percussion Dueling Pistol, made circa the mid-Nineteenth Century in Vienna, Austria. This example is “2” marked and is the second pistol of a pair with “Jos. Beiller in Wien” in gold on the barrel, “ZEILLER” in gold on the lock, and an inlay with a coronet over “P”. Purpose-built dueling pistols have various improvements to make them more reliable and accurate, such as longer and heavier barrels and hair triggers. All component parts were manufactured, hand-finished and then adjusted with great care and precision, which made dueling pistols much more costly than standard firearms of the period. Special care was taken when molding the lead bullets to ensure that there were no voids which would affect accuracy. Pistols were carefully and identically loaded, and each duelist was offered his choice of the indistinguishable loaded pistols. As duels were generally fought at short distances which were paced out, typically 35 to 45 feet between stationary opponents, extreme accuracy was not required. Here is a nice example of quality Austrian craftsmanship. The overall condition is very good. Original Damascus pattern on the barrel. Even finish and patina throughout. Bright gold highlights and clear engraving. The action is excellent. The bore is dim with decent rifling. The stock shows use and remains in very good condition. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9-1/2 inches. Caliber: .47 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
