Description:
This extraordinary piece of firearms artistry was presented to Spanish infantry general and politician Buenaventura Carbo,Son of General Jaime Carbo, Buenaventura Carbo entered the Spanish Army as an infantry cadet in 1832 and reached the rank of lieutenant general. Serving alongside his father, Carbo participated in the First Carlist War, the first in a series of civil wars in Spain fought over claims to the throne. Eventually Carbo went on to serve as second corporal of the General Captaincy of the island of Cuba , interim Minister of War , Captain General of the Balearic Islands , State Councilor , Captain General of the Canary Islands , and Supreme Council of War and Navy. This stocked, engraved S&W Russian revolver is certainly fitting for a Spanish official of Buenaventura Carbo's high status.
This revolver has nearly full coverage engraving with Nimschke's typical scrolls and punch dot background. Buenaventura Carbo’s monogram is relief engraved on the side plate. The Model 3 Second Model Russian features a 7 inch round barrel chambered in 44 S&W Russian. Barrel and cylinder are silver plated, and the frame is gold plated. The revolver wears an attractive set of pearl grips. Both grip panels are numbered to the gun. The barrel and cylinder retain 80% original silver plating. The frame retains about 75% original gold plating. The stock is in excellent condition with most all of the original nickel plating on the attaching hardware. Walnut stock is in good condition. The case is also in good condition. Lining has faded and there is some typical handling and storage marks. A wonderful piece with artful eye appeal and history as well.
