Description:
This listing is for one unfinished semi-inletted walnut rifle stock. The buyer should be aware this is a semi-inletted rifle stock not a completely finished stock. It will require hand work to result in a fully finished condition. The stock was designed for installation of a Model 98 Mauser bolt action barreled receiver. You will notice in the photos that the walnut stock wood has a large amount of tiger stripes. These stripes should result in a truly impressive eye catching stock when finished. In the stock’s current state it weighs 2 pounds 10 ounces and has a length of 33 3/4 inches. Millions of Model 1898 Mauser rifles have been produced over the years. They were made in both large receiver ring and small ring models. They have been manufactured in many countries and in a lot of different factories. As a result of this there are a lot of 98 actions which deviate somewhat from Paul Mauser’s original patent. Photo’s #12, 14 & 15 are overhead shots of the stock’s inletting for the bottom metal and the receiver. In photo #14 & 15 one can see where wood was removed for the receiver ring. This void measured at the top of the stock at the widest point is approx 1.350”. The same receiver ring area on the outside from side to side is approx 1.725”. These measurements were taken with a verneer caliper and can be considered as accurate. Photo #12 shows the cut for the bottom metal. With a tape measure the center to center receiver screw spacing is approx 7 ¾ “. Photos #14 and 15 are similar views of the factory inletting of the receiver and box magazine.  Photo #13 shows the barrel channel. The stock has a fairly small barrel channel for those wishing to install an original military barrel. The barrel channel can of course be enlarged if a somewhat larger diameter sporter barrel is being installed. I hope the above inletting measurements help any interested party to determine if this stock would meet his/her needs. The stock features a fitted nonslip rubber butt pad. The stock is somewhat darker in color with a redish tint than what the photo's depict.  The stock will be shipped in a corrugated cardboard carton.
