This example was originally a Danish military model 1848 muzzleloading percussion rifle and was subsequently converted to the Snider breech loading system for use with rimfire ammunition. These rifles were used during the First Schleswig War by the Schleswig-Holstein Rebels in their original 1848 Bagladeriffel pillar-breech configuration. After the defeat of the Schleswig-Holstein Rebels, they surrendered their weapons to the Danish victors. The Danish then converted some to the 1853 naval version in Kronborg, and then again in 1866 at Copenhagen converted them using the Snider mechanism as seen on this specimen. Only 1,100 of these final conversions were made. The reason for the last conversion was due to financial constraints not allowing the entirety of the Danish military to update their armament to the Model 1867 Remington Rolling Block that was adopted at that time. This rifle was converted 3 times. A testament to its durability. The lock is marked with model designation "MD-1848" above the original manufacture date and serial number "1854-35" which is also repeated on the barrel. The conversion number "5114" is marked on the breech block, barrel and hammer. Blade sight on the front barrel band, curved rear sight graduated from 300-900. The overall condition is fine. Original finish and case colors. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock shows relatively little use or handling. Numbers match throughout. This is a very well built and solid rifle with significant Scandinavian and Northern European historical value. It is also a scarce find. Make this one a part of your collection. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-5/8 inches. Caliber: .70 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
