Description:
Offered is an Otis Smith nickel spur trigger five shot .38 short rimfire revolver. These were made by Otis A. Smith in 1873-1879 in his Rockfall, Connecticut plant. The plant burned down in 1879 and production ceased. He made less than 4000 of these between the .38 & .41 calibers combined so they are quite scarce. Early guns had the brass frame and this is one of the later guns with the iron frame plus it is nickel plated. The top of the frame shows the patent date of April 15, 1873. The stocks are of a dark wood and in excellent condition without any chips or cracks. The cylinder drops out of the frame quite easily by just pulling a spring loaded knob under the barrel. This gun is in amazing condition for its age with all of the bright nickel finish remaining. The gun is mechanically perfect. To load you just pull the hammer back to the first notch and the cylinder rotates freely allowing one to just drop in the cartridges. To get to the internals for oiling just remove the single screw on the left side plate of the revolver frame. The serial number on the butt of the grip shows 2915 which would put this revolver about 3/4 of the way through the production. This gun was made before 1898 and meets the requirements of an antique so no license is required to purchase the gun. I offer a three-day non-firing inspection period and always want the buyer to be satisfied with their purchase. The gun will be packed correctly and shipped with insurance to your address in the continental United States for $35.
