Gun originally from Norm Flaydermans list # 65..
Listed in Cochran's Colt Peacemakers Encyclopedia..
All matching , exc Bore - Old nickel refinish (Worn)..
original 1 piece wood grips with two large German silver plaques inlaid into grips..
one side Inscribed "to J.H.Gibson" Other side "Presented by C.Black , Villa Lardo , Mexico"
Reason for the presentation is unknown. yet pistol comes with an inch thick of documentation on Gibson.
Gibson was a life-long resident of Finley and Dayton , OHIO..
J.H.Gibson was a veteran of the Mexican War as a Drummer Boy AND the Civil War as a Private in Ohio 2nd Inf.
.., wounded in 5/1864 and discharged in Oct of that year..
records show Before AND after the War he worked as a Boiler maker - traveling to south Texas
and Mexico for the company he worked for.. Working on what projects is unclear..
perhaps the Railroad or he made a couple Tequilla stills for C.Black in the process and was given this "gift"
Over an inch thick of papers are included on J.H.Gibson
C.Black's records are hard to obtain since he was on the otherside of the border.I believe "Villa Lardo"
eventually became part of Durango Mexico..
