Description:
ANTIQUE - Custer range - Lot #6 - Colt Cavalry Single Action Army - Ainsworth inspected - 45 cal - model 1873 .. 7 1/2 inch.. w/Colt letter
Interesting Colt SAA , Serial #6161 falls in the serial number of Lot#6 - a group of Pistols documented as being sent to Custer before he went to the Little Big Horn Battle...
AS other Colts that were documented in John Kopecs book  "Colt Cavalry - a continuing story " ..This serial number is within the range of other SAA that after the battle they were returned to the Springfield armory. As the letter states this serial number was refurbished , most likely from the batch sent to them in 1895 and then sent back to the govt. in 1901. where it continued to lead a interesting story...

Kopec recalls seeing this revolver back in the 1980's when it did have the 5 1/2 barrel as the Colt letter states.
Yet now it has been restored to it's original glory and has a 7 1/2 renumbered barrel to match...

Overall grey color - fully functional - nice grips - cartouche visible - 4 clicks , early US markings
