These were produced primarily during the 3 year period immediately following WWII (1946-48). They usually retained various Pre War features, most notably the "clover leaf" shaped rear receiver tang such as on this rifle, along with a uniquely profiled safety lever used only during this brief period, often referred to as a "clam shell" or "rabbit's foot" safety. The safety lever on this particular rifle has been upgraded to a more ergonomically friendly, period made Tilden safety which has an aggressive downturned thumb pad and works as smooth as silk. This was basically a drop in part once the shroud pin was punched out, required no structural modification to the firearm whatsoever, and can be easily returned to the original lever. S/N 62869 with matching scribed bolt made in 1947. This rifle remains in excellent condition, retaining its original finishes at about 96% overall. The inner surfaces and barrel channel look spotless with no bedding or alterations of any kind. There are no cracks inside or out on this rifle. 24" standard weight barrel with minty bore. All mechanical functions are flawless as well. Correct components including proper sights, hood, swivels, etc. A very fine example of a completely intact and scarce "transition" 70 in the king of calibers. Please add $100 for expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska in the industry's finest custom cut, foam lined box. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
