This is a late Second Model 32 Sidehammer revolver manufactured by Allen & Wheelock. Officially manufactured from 1859 to 1862 with total quantity estimated at over 1000 this example has the quick drop grip angle that was changed on the Smith & Wesson slow drop style of the last versions. A rugged and reliable Civil War era revolver that saw production suspended with the Rollin White lawsuit for patent infringement for bored through cylinders. Available in three different barrel lengths of 3,4 or 5 inches a premium was charged for the longer barrel versions. This example remains in fine antique condition with the barrel, frame and cylinder showing about 25-30% of the original blue in protected areas with the balance a pewter gray. The grips are numbered to the gun and remain in excellent condition. The barrel markings remain legible with the frame patent date somewhat obscured. All numbered parts match correctly except for the cylinder pin which fits snug but does not latch in place. The action functions correctly with proper indexing holding at half and full cock and releasing with a crisp trigger pull. A fine example of the long barrel 32 Sidehammer. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
