Description:
M1 Garand Pre WWII Springfield Stock which displays the correct cartouche for the time period betweem 1936 t0 1940.
Rifles fitted into stocks with this cartouche were in the serial number range from 81-78000.
The cartouche shows the manufacturer S.A.(Springfield Armory) above the initials of the ordinance inspector at the time S.P.G.
There is no ordinance escutcheon (crossed cannons cartouche) which was not required until after serial # 80,000.
Another indicator of an early stock is the barrel channel length is 2.15" which was shortened on later guns.
This stock appears to be a genuine survivor and is in very good condition considering its history.
