Description:
Colt U.S. Army Model 1896 in 38 Long Colt. Notable is the lack of the standard lanyard ring.
Stamped on the left grip panel is the Army accepting inspector's cartouche (JTT) and the date 1900; the bottom of the cartouche is a bit worn but still legible. Stamped on the right grip panel is a second cartouche (RAC); these initials are also stamped on the butt plane of the left grip panel, the back of the cylinder and the left side of the frame.
Barrel is marked "COLT. D.A. 38" on left side; top is marked "COLT'S PT F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD C.T. U.S.A. PATENTED AUG.5.1884 NOV.6.88 MAR.5.95". The only signifigant corrision is the left side at the mid-point of the barrel.
The butt is marked "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1896 No 142 383". The cylinder latch and the inside surface of the crane are both marked "K 2383".
Screws, pins and trigger are fire blued, still showing good color.
