Description:
Serial #NSN, .22 Short, Long, Extra Long, 21 inch heavy barrel with a very fine dark, frosted bore with strong rifling. This is the Winchester Junior Rifle Corps Range Kit No. 2. Manufactured by Winchester for the Junior Rifle Corps these kits contained all the necessary items however despite the large number of competitors (over 100,000 at its height) over the time span of the program not many kits were sold, fewer survived and many of the components were used or not kept. This one includes the original model 04 rifle housed in the original wood case, Winchester marked gun oil can, gun grease and rust remover. Four boxes, 200 original rounds, of Winchester 1906 “Trade Mark" on top label issue 22 Short ammunition that are all full with either full or partial seals. Also included are a Junior Rifle Corps lapel or hat pin, a Marksman and Pro-Marksman medals; original rule book; Instructors' Manual; Diploma issued May 28, 1924 to Willis Krumlaw; one original official target with two copies; original cleaning rod; and a “W.J.R.C." monogrammed belt that was made by someone. Condition of the kit and items ranges from excellent to very good with the model 04 rifle in the top of the range retaining about 85-90% of the original blue finish on the barrel and butt plate with some light scratches, freckles and other use marks. The trigger guard has lost most of the original finish and ranges from gun metal gray with some brown spotting. The original perch belly stock is solid showing numerous old contusions and scratches. The action functions properly. The rifle comes stored in its original dark wood case, with the original “WINCHESTER" painted on the lid with the lettering still strong and clear showing some flaking. The hinges, clasps and new leather handle are all functioning and excellent there is a split in the top board that runs across the case. These kits are difficult to find in any condition and this one is especially nice and has many original components and other rare items from the program. FFL or C&R
