BALLARD No. 4 RIFLE IN .45-70, MADE BY THE BALLARD RIFLE & CARTRIDGE Co., CODY, WYOMING, #C 6XX. These were exceptionally well made Ballards that the company said were not "reproductions" but simply a "continuation of the Ballard line." This example has a straight stock with checkered steel shotgun butt plate, double set triggers, "ring" lever, 32" polished blue medium heavy round barrel, beautifully bone charcoal pack hardened case color finish on the receiver, lever, breech block, hammer etc. Fitted with a long range vernier tang sight adjustable for windage and elevation, globe front sight slotted to take inserts (inserts and sliding retaining clip not present), nice meduim brown color walnut in the butt stock and forend with schnable tip accented with darker straight grain. Weighs right about 11 1/2 lbs. These are stunning rifles that were made for a limited time and are now very difficult to acquire.
