Description:
The Mossberg Model 44US (US PROPERTY STAMPED) is a military version of the Model 44US which were made for U.S. troops as a training rifle from 1943 to 1944, with apprxoimatel 53,000 manufactured. The rifles were United States Property stamped and were fitted with a heavy 26 inch barrel, walnut finished birch (?) pistol grip stock, receiver mounted aperture sight, target front sight, blue finished with a color case-hardened finished bolt handle, and chambered in .22 LR.. The rifle is in excellent orignal condition, retaining 98% original blue, the stock/forearm retaining 98% original finish, with assorted minor handling marks (see last note below). The bolt retains approximatley 30% original color case-hardened finsh. The bore is bright, with sharp rifling, and the action functions perfectly. NOTE: Both the Safety/ Fire buttons are in place behind the bolt, but the red and green paint has flaked off. NOTE: A very nice example except for the chip on the top of the stock, just ahead of the rear sight (I believe it was chipped at the time it was assembled, because the stock had not been cut out enough to make room for the sight).
