The Galil is a rifle that was designed and produced in Israel in the early 1970’s after the Israel Defense Force uncovered the need to go to a more reliable rifle than the FN FAL and a rifle that has a more controllable recoil impulse in full auto. Designed off of the Finnish RK-62 Valmet (a 5.56mm AK variant), the Galil was designed by Yisrael Galili and Yakov Lior as a lighter and more versatile rifle for military service. The Galil boasted several different variants designated as the AR (Automatic Rifle), the ARM (Automatic Rifle Machine-gun) which featured a bipod and carry handle, the SAR (Short Automatic Rifle) which was used for close engagements, and even the Galil Galatz which was a .308 Win marksman rifle.
This is a pre-ban import IMI AR that was brought in by Action Arms. The Galil was not imported into the US in large numbers as built rifles, and most Galils on the market are parts kits built on new receivers. It is fairly rare to see one that is built on the original Israeli receiver.
