This third-model Winchester 1873 circa 1885 is a complete and honest gun, chambered in .38-40 Winchester. All parts on this gun have even wear and patina and indicate that all are original. This rifle maintains the original carbine rear sight. Although this is the saddle ring version, the actual ring is not present.
The wood shows no signs of being sanded, altered, or stained. We can find no evidence of cracks anywhere in the wood. As seen in the pictures, wood maintains its rough milling of the grain and is proud of the metal. Dust cover is original third model with serrations on the side and alignment tooth intact. The elevator indicates .38 Cal as it should. Front barrel band is missing a screw, and another under the lever as seen in the picture.
The bore is fairly clean showing some signs of black powder use and pitting. Rifling is very visible. We would expect that further cleaning would even improve upon this very serviceable barrel. Brass trapdoor in butt plate operates as it should. No cleaning accessories present.
For the collector, this is a true, honest Winchester model 1873. While it shows signs of its age as seen in the pictures, it is a gun that has not been altered or monkeyed with. This would be a fine specimen for your collection. Feel free to ask questions or for additional pictures if you have serious interest. We are here to develop satisfied customers.
