The name “Victory” came from the “V” prefix placed in the serial number. This was in reference to “Victory” against the Axis Powers in World War 2. According to the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson 4th Ed., the Victory Model was built on the square butt K-frame with 5 screws, a 4-inch pinned barrel (2-inch barrels are known but scarce), parkerized finish, 1/10” forged round blade front sight with a square notch rear sight, smooth wooden grips, and a lanyard ring on the butt. Controls are the 0.265-inch serrated service trigger and 0.265” checked hammer. Cylinder length was an average of 1.56”. Serial numbers range from the original V1 to V769000 and SV769001 to SV811832. The Victory was numbered concurrently with the .38/200 British Service Model. In total, around 242,291 of this model were produced between 1942 and 1945. The revolver above features a worn finish, which is unsurprising given the fact that it saw military service. The frame has the typical letter “P” stamped on the left hand side of the frame just above and behind the cylinder. The barrel and edges of the cylinder exhibit some holster wear. There a several locations on the surface of the metal wear it appears that rust began to form but was then cleaned before it could travel too deep into the surface of metal. As such, the surfaces of the revolver’s various parts remain fairly smooth. The grips are in excellent shape, but unsurprisingly do not match in terms of the grain of the wood. The hammer and trigger show some signs of wear in the case hardening, but retain more than usual. The bore is in pristine condition. It should provide the user with superb accuracy.
