This rifle is faithful assembly of the USMC 1952 sniper rifle using original parts. These rifles used the M1C bracket with the Stigh Kollmorgen 4X telescope and a special Griffin & Howe mount. This rifle, Springfield Armory M1 serial number 3491385, is an M1C field grade gun with the M1C receiver base and added USMC scope and accessories. The hanging tag documents the muzzle reading as 2 and the throat reading as 3. It was sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program in June 2011. The CMP paperwork accompanies the rifle. It is equipped with a WWII M1C bracket numbered on the bottom 3661782. It is secured to the receiver with the correct three screws and two pins. However, it is not properly staked to the receiver. The Springfield barrel is dated 4 53. The bore is excellent. The parkerized finish is approx. 98% overall. The buttstock is fine with a strong Defense Acceptance Stamp and circle P firing proof. There is an approx. 5/8"" long gouge at the wood line on the left of the receive and a rough area approx. .5"" square on the right at the receiver. The stock is equipped with a fine WWIIsling. The rear handguard is very good and the front is good with dents on the left. It is correctly NOT equipped with the leather cheek piece which the USMC did not issue. The operating rod is H&R. The gas cylinder is a wide sight base Springfield. The small parts and bolt are of the era of Korean War assembly with the trigger guard being the WWII forged type. The Griffin & Howe mount and rings are correct to the era. The Stith Kollmorgen 4X scope is marked MC 626-P on top of the tube and STITH MOUNTS S.A., TEX. followed by 4X DOUBLE over KOLLMORGEN OPTICAL CORP. BROOKLYN, N.Y. PAT. PEND. in two lines around the viewing lens. The fine crosshair optics are excellent and the black scope finish is excellent. The barrel is equipped with a stamped HART M2 flash hider. The action functions correctly. Here's your chance to acquire an assembled USMC 1952 sniper rifle using key original parts. It will display perfectly for half the cost of an original. SOLD |
