Description:
The 1st Type 250 Stevens Hammer gun is a rare and desireable collectable piece. Only 1000 were made from 1902 to 1904. This Stevens Model 250 1st type 12 ga is completely original, mechanically sound, locks up tight, and has excellent bores. It is in very good condition and has 28” mono-block fluid steel barrels with 2 ¾” chambers. It weighs in at 7 lbs 15oz with a LOP = 13 ½”, DC = 1 ¾, & DH = 2 ¼”. The top lever is a little bit left of center, but the gun locks up perfectly. It appears to have been shot very little because it functions perfectly. The stock is all original with about 95% oil finish, very good checkering, and the original butt plate is in good shape. The action has no original finish but is clean without any rust of corrosion. The barrels retain 98% original blue. This is a very rare variation of the Model 250. Only 1000 were made from 1902 to 1904. It is the best example of this model I came across in 50 years collecting American double barrel shotguns.

The Stevens Arms & Tool Co., Chicopee Falls, Mass. Model 250 1st type is a sidelock hammer gun made in 12 & 16 ga weighing about 8 pounds. Lockup is by a rotary bolt, like the L C Smith made on Alexander Brown patent of 1887, that fits through a square hole in the rib extension. The barrels were mono-block being a solid breach-block with steel tubes inserted. This construction was patented and introduced by Pieper of Belgium. It has back-action sidelocks. Niles reports that 1000 units were made between 1902 & 1904 at a price of $20. Surviving examples are rare.
