Description:
This is a very cool and seldom-seen boxed "kit" from Interarms that they put together in 1981-82 using a former West German Police Walther P4 9mm pistol, a West German black leather police holster, and 2 Walther factory "P1" marked magazines, all packaged together in a special box.  From what we have learned, Interarms only sold these kits for two years between 1981 and 1982 so they are very scarce.  The pistol in this kit is a 1975 production Walther P4, a former "BMI" police gun (German Federal Criminal Police).  The DA/SA semi-auto Walther P4 was a modernized version of the WW2 P-38 pistol manufactured from 1975 until 1981, featuring a lightweight alloy frame, a 4.5" inch barrel, an 8-round single stack magazine, a reinforced steel slide, a slide-mounted decocking lever, checkered black plastic grips, and a new internal safety mechanism that lowers the firing pin down out of alignment with the hammer when the hammer is resting in the down position.  This new automatic safety system made the P4 extremely safe to carry with one on the chamber.  The Walther P4 quickly proved to be an excellent service and self-defense weapon, reliable, accurate, and well-made.  This particular P4 was made in December of 1975, the first year of production for this model.  It is all-original and all of the serial-numbered parts are matching including the barrel, locking block, frame, and slide.  The phosphate finish on all of the steel parts is in excellent condition and rates 98% plus.  There is no visible finish wear on any of the phosphate-finished parts, just a few tiny little handling marks that are only visible under extremely close inspection.  The black anodized finish on the frame is also in excellent condition, rating 98% plus.  The deductions from the anodized finish come from a tiny bit of finish wear on the left side edge of the triggerguard.  All of the original factory, police, and importer's markings on this gun are crisp, clean, and fully legible with the exception of the X'ed out "BMI" initials on the right side of the frame and the professionally milled panel on the right side of the slide that used to also contain the "BMI" property stamp.  The bore in the 4.5" inch barrel is mirror-bright and minty, showing perfect rifling and no visible imperfections or erosion.  The factory checkered black plastic grips on this pistol are in very good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage.  Both grip panels show some scattered minor handling marks but little to no actual wear.   The checkering is still crisp and the grips fit the gun perfectly with no wiggle.  The action on this P4 is slick, smooth, and precise with a perfect slide-to-frame fit.  The barrel and slide locks up into battery perfectly no matter how slow or fast you let the slide come forward.  All of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order, and both factory magazines are in great shape with clean feed lips and strong follower springs.  There is no doubt that this Walther will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 46 years ago.  This P4 could pass for having been made last year instead of more than 4 decades ago!  The West German Police/Military drop-style holster in this kit is one of the nicest examples we have ever seen.  The leather is soft and flexible, and all of the original stitching and hardware is in like-new condition.  The original gloss black finish on the exterior of the holster is shiny, beautiful, and fully intact.  The rear of the holster is stamped with the makers control/contract number and model info, however it is lightly stamped and hard to read.  From what we can see, the top line reads "8440-12-120-6169", and the line below that reads "T2F Pist.38.Kal.9".   As mentioned before, this P4 rig comes with the original special box, the owner's manual, the Interarms pamphlet, a small warning hangtag, and even the clear plastic shipping bag for the pistol.  The box is a particularly cool design with great artwork and it is in excellent shape overall.  The box is serial-numbered to the gun on the end and all 4 corners are still intact.  If you have been looking for a very cool new pistol to add to your collection this Interarms-imported Walther P4 boxed "Kit" would be an excellent choice.  Not only is this a very scarce set to find but this example is 100% complete and in superb condition!
