This is a handsome revolver that retains 80-85% of the original blue finish, with the balance faded to a mellow plum-brown patina, especially along the high edges, and some silvering as well. The “church steeple"-fluted cylinder is serial numbered to the gun (154), and the frame and barrel have matching assembly numbers (3705). The topstrap has Webley “'WG' ARMY MODEL 1892" marking with the Webley & Scott “Winged Bullet" on the lower left side of the frame, and the “ARMY & NAVY CSL" retailer marking along the barrel rib. The checkered Vulcanite grips are in fine condition with some scattered small scratches and blemishes, some flattening of the points, and a small chip missing from the butt on the right side panel. The barrel lock-up is tight, but does have some lateral play when closed, and the mechanism functions flawlessly. Army & Navy CSL records list this revolver as having been sold on September 23, 1893 to “Col. Boggs". Arthur Ansell Boggs was born on August 6, 1843, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He purchased a commission as an Ensign in July of 1862, and served in the 55th Regiment, with service in the Bhutan Expedition of 1865. The following year, he became a Lieutenant in the 34th Regiment and served with them until his transfer and promotion to Captain in the Worcestershire Regiment in April of 1873. He was promoted to Major in the East Yorkshire Regiment in August of 1883, and retired in August of 1891 as a Lt. Colonel. This is a handsome WG, with history, and is in about very good condition.
