My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles Description: This is a First Model 1916 Newton rifle in caliber 30 USG or 30-06. It has all matching serial numbers of 1543 on the bolt, bolt sleeve, grip cap, wood under grip cap,  receiver, stock, trigger guard, floor plate and tang. The flats of the receiver have been milled for a scope rather than drilled and tapped. If you take the scope off the rifle, the milled areas are not very noticeable. The stock has no cracks. There appears to be three filled holes near the barrel address on a re-blued barrel. The rifle has a Burris 4X scope mounted on Weaver style mounts on the milled receiver. The receiver is 85% blue, the floor plate area 60%. The double set triggers work well. The firing pin nut has been dovetailed probably for a Lyman 1A bolt peep sight mounted at one time. The rifle has a ventilated pad and LOP is 14 inches. The wood is in very good condition with some minor handling marks. There is a filled hole in the wood near the butt which had a screw eye mounted at one time.  The bore is very good. Less than 16% of First Models or about 625 rifles were produced in this caliber.
