This is the only site I use and do not plan to change. Description: 67 caliber smooth bore is a replacement from a different musket36 inch barrel with a moderately oxidized bore. The metal surfaces show a nice overall plum browmpatina. The front and rear sights are original and the US proof markings can be seen in the area of the breech with the tang being dated 1824. Conversion is by the drum and nipple method and there is pitting in the area of the drum and high spur hammer. The lock has the "US/N. Starr" markings and dated 1825 at the rear. The nipple is a more modern replacement. The bands appear correct except for the rear band which is from a different musket. The triggerguard has had the rear spur removed which held the rear sling swivel. The walnut stock was cleaned many years ago and some repares were done at that time. Possibly a Confederate conversion utilizing this very tall gunsmith made hammer. The arm has been bored to smoothbore at some point perhaps for a forager post war. This was a very common conversion in the south.Full cock will not hold, but the halfcock works. This is a probable Confederate weapon. No paperwork required. $50.00 Shipping via Priority Mail.
