Serial numbered in the 19XX serial range (1889 manufacture) 30”x10guage with fine to excellent bright bores and action. Fine metal with no pitting …but also no appreciable amount of finish remaining. Action is smooth and tight, the wood looks to be a better grade than the standard grade (more like what would be considered 1X or 2X wood on a Winchester, as a comparison) and the stock and forearm are in very good condition with just light to medium wear to the checking and having the decorative horn foretip piece. It has the original Rampant Colt hard rubber buttplate with no damage. There apparently were TWO frame sizes made in the Colt1883 model shotgun and this is only the second heavy framed one that I have ever seen. All the 1883s that I’ve ever seen or had were all the lighter framed ones. These relatively scarce Colt double barrels are considered by many collectors and shotgun enthusiasts to be the finest American shotgun of the late 1800s and well into the 1900s. (….a bold statement which will likely raise the hackles of Parker shotgun owners!) Definitely a conversation piece at a gun range, and this old Colt scatter-gun still has many good hunts left in it!
