Poultney & Trimble Baltimore USA. The gun shows no signs of ever being fired. The original nipple has crisp edges at the impact point. The surrounding area of the fence shows no powder residue or signs of ignition. The bore appears as new. There is no residue of a cartridge ever being in the chamber. The condition of this gun is amazing, its only drawback is some very fine surface rust on the barrel and trigger guard from being stored in a basement. I have owned this gun since I was 12 years old. My Grandmother was a live-in house keeper to an elderly lady named Sadie Alley. Miss Alley was in her eighties when I visited my Grandmother. I observed this Old gun hanging on a wall in the basement. Years later Miss Alley passed, while in her nineties. I contacted the executor of her estate and was able to acquire the gun. I am 76, so I have owned this gun for 64 years! Now to the important things: Barrel Blue 95% or better. All screw heads are ("Fire Blue) and remain at 98-100%. Case color is 95% on the receiver and quite vivid. Finish on hammer is 100% but toning with age. Stocks appear unused, some minor handling marks from storage, (not from use) Inspectors Cartouches are Perfect. JH in an oval on Wrist, Small JH on top of butt near buttplate, Mark of JE on forend. Original Finish on the Stock is near 100% and still shows "Whiskering" that appears on old but unused stock finishes. The front sight is missing the blade, and the flat spring in the rear sight is broken. This gun is truly a "Time Capsule". You simply will not find a better Smith carbine anywhere at this price. I have looked at the prices of Smith's on this sight and elsewhere. I have Slashed the price to $1500.00. plus $50. shipping. This is a Antique and does not require an FFL.(SOLD- PENDING FUNDS.
