Description:
Serial #33740, .303 British, 30 1/4" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a simply splendid looking, BSA-manufactured rifle that was retailed by Westley Richards as a military target rifle. The metal has retained 92-95% of the original bright commercial blue that has faded at the muzzle, as well as along some of the exposed edges and projections. The rifle is not fitted with a safety, however both the front and rear volley sights are present, as is the magazine cut-off. A Vernier adjustable Sutherland rear barrel sight is fitted, as well as an unmarked flip-up rear aperture target sight mounted to the left side of the receiver. The original “BSA Co." marking on the wrist socket has been surcharged by Westley Richards: “WRA Co."; and a large retailer mark is engraved along the top of the barrel: “WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. LONDON / BEST TARGET RIFLE". The English walnut buttstock, forend, and handguard have an attractive straight-grained appearance, with small handling marks and minor surface blemishes scattered about the original lustrous oil finish which still remains on the rifle. The rifle has no provision for a cleaning rod, but does have a bayonet rail, and is also extensively marked with both Government acceptance, and Birmingham nitro proofs. This is a splendid Westley Richards Long Lee, and is in excellent overall condition. It would make a great addition to any collection of high condition British rifles (either military or sporting).
