Winchester's Model 70 was called the "Rifleman's Rifle" by many in the know, including the shooting editor of Outdoor Life, Jim Carmichael. Known for its accuracy, rugged durability, CONTROLED ROUND FEED, and overall good looks, the Pre-64 Model 70 has continued to be in high demand and has grown in value yearly. The number of styles, configurations, calibers, and slight design changes make the Model 70 a collector/shooter's dream. Most of the Model 70 rifles produced were Standard rifles. The Super Grade was available to shooters who wanted a deluxe rifle and came with an ebony forend tip, the “Super Grade” marking on the magazine floor plate, special stock configurations, etc. Of the over 1/2 million pre-64 Model 70 rifles produced, only 2.73 percent, or about 15,000 were Super Grades. Only 2.41% were made in the .375 Holland & Holland Magnum, which comes to about 362 Super Grade rifles made in .375 Magnum caliber. All the features are correct for the period, including the curvature of the pistol grip, checkering LPI and pattern, low comb stock with cheek piece, swivel mounts, and even the pad was standard on the short magnum rifles. This Model 70 Super Grade, sn169701 made in 1950 (barrel marked 1952) is in superb factory original condition, with 99% blue on the barrel, perfect bore and rifling, the receiver retains 99% blue, and the bottom metal and trigger guard retain 99% factory blue, and the stock has most all the original finish as well with light handling marks. The Lyman 48WJS receiver sight and Redfield No. 255 front sight are proper for the Super Grade in 1950 to 1952 period. We have the proper sling swivels ordered for this gun and they are included in the price. THIS IS A RARE GUN, AND A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A GREAT PRE-64 MODEL 70 SUPER GRADE in an African Safari caliber that you will want to carry after elk, bear, moose, and hogs on this continent. Professional hunters in Africa after dangerous game consider the Model 70 Super Grade to be a supreme rifle with its controlled round feed and the .375 H&H being a favored cartridge because it is tapered to feed without fail. It is also a 4 round magazine, with one in the chamber, a big plus in a bad scenario! A VERY POPULAR RIFLE IN AFRICA AND FOR LARGE BEAR WORLD-WIDE.
