When introduced to Army service in 1938, the P38 was a very advanced design. Once loaded, the P38 could be safely decocked and kept at the ready with a chambered round. With no safety to release, the operator just had to squeeze the purposely heavy double action trigger to fire the gun; thereafter the gun's recoiling slide would cock the hammer for a easier single action trigger pull. This system has become a common element in many modern pistols, for example, the Beretta 92 and Sig Sauer P229 series.

The Walther P38 was in production for the Warmacht between the years 1939-1945. This p38 variant also called P1 was manufactured by Walther postwar c. 1966 for police, military and commercial market. This later model was built with the exact specifications of P38 and modernized with an aluminum frame making it lighter to carry. This gun weighs 27.5oz where the P38 weighs around 34oz. 

This Walther P38 (P1) is in beautiful condition with mirror bore and 99% polished blue slide - a rarity as most P38 have matt nitride. The gun has matching numbers and proof marked ULM.
