Designed in 1959 by Miroslav Rybár, the Scorpion VZ. 61 was the first machine pistol developed from the ground up. There were several pistols predating the scorpion, however, they were designed as standard handguns and later had an afterthought full-auto function added. There was no actual pistol that was designed to be shouldered for full-auto fire. With tank crews, machine gun crews, and rear echelon troops in mind, the Czechs wanted a gun that could serve as a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) offering a more effective solution than a standard handgun. Much smaller than a submachinegun and around the same size as a large handgun, this machine pistol fit the role perfectly. Nicknamed the scorpion, due to the way the stock folded forward on the barrel (mimicking a scorpion’s tail), this pistol was chambered in small pistol cartridges that could accommodate 10, 20, and 30 round magazines, while giving its user the ability to laydown more fire than a standard sidearm.

This CSA (Czech Small Arms) semi-auto civilian pistol version is a great collector piece and a fun shooter!
